There is little doubt that new homes are more energy efficient than ever before. Technologies such as Heat Pumps, and Smart Thermostats are being combined with the latest building methodologies and processes to build extremely energy efficient homes. Studies by the NHBC Foundation and the Zero Carbon Hub suggests that a new home will consume around half of the energy that would be used by a typical (refurbished) Victorian home.

It is encouraging to see house-builders utilising the latest technologies available, but is enough being done to educate the homeowner in how to use their new home to best advantage – minimising energy and expense while maximising comfort and well-being? While these new technologies and systems are capable of much, the best intentions can go awry when the human hand is brought into the equation.

Providing customers with adequate information on their new renewable heating, detailed enough to be of use, but concise enough to be considered, is a challenge. There is little doubt that that more and more people are looking to build sustainable homes with renewable heating systems playing a key role in keeping energy bills low.
