In homes where space is limited and water requirements are low, a combination boiler may be the best answer. Vaillant Combi boilers heat hot water on demand, without the need for a hot water cylinder or cold water tank. They’re the most energy efficient boiler you can choose. Take note, though, that the water pressure may not be as high as with other boiler types – and, like all combi boilers, it will struggle to supply hot water to multiple taps/showers at the same time.

A System boiler supplies hot water via an unvented hot water cylinder but without the need for any cold water tanks in the loft as the system is fed directly from the water main. Sealing heating and hot water systems prevents any sludge or corrosion entering the system prolonging the life of the boiler and system. These boilers are adaptable and eco-friendly – they can be used with solar thermal heating systems and are the most efficient systems for larger properties with multiple bathrooms.

Traditional Regular Boilers (also known as open-vented systems) supply central heating through a boiler configured with a small tank in the loft – the open vent and feed and expansion tank. Hot water is provided via an indirect cylinder (usually found in an airing cupboard) fed by a large cold water tank in the loft. Suitable for larger properties with several bathrooms, but crucially it is more suitable for older systems with pipework and/or radiators that would not cope under mains water pressure.
